We're changing our name to Hear Me Out
March 1, 2021
Music In Detention has some exciting news to share with you. On 22nd March, we will be changing our name to Hear Me Out. We will also be launching a new website with our new brand, and we wanted to give you a little more information.
Why are we changing our name?
Back in 2017, after adopting a new strategy, we committed to sharing the music created by people in detention centres with a bigger public audience, as well as raising funds from the public. Since that shift in approach, we have been working with thousands of amazing people, both detainees and stakeholders, to deliver that.
Our goal to further engage the public has largely driven the thinking behind the rebrand. ‘Music In Detention’ is a descriptive kind of name, but it can be confusing as people don’t always know what ‘Detention’ refers to. To engage more people with the work we do with people held in immigration detention, we needed a name with more emotional resonance.
Why ‘Hear Me Out’?
We chose Hear Me Out as it speaks to our mission of taking music-making into UK immigration detention centres and providing a platform for the people held there to share their music and life stories with the outside world.
What else will change?
Launching alongside the rebrand will be a fantastic new website that will be live and ready on 22nd March. Here, you will be able to access the music we’ve helped create over the years, with the people and stories that inspired the music front and centre.
What isn’t changing?
While there will be significant changes to our name, brand and website, rest assured our mission and values remain the same. Our work with people in immigration detention will continue to be at the centre of everything we do. We believe this rebrand will help convey our values more powerfully and reach more people with our charitable work.
